Livas signs contract with Baltimore Ravens

BALTIMORE -- Former Louisiana Tech receiver and return specialist Phillip Livas has joined the Baltimore Ravens practice squad the team announced Tuesday.

Livas tied an NCAA record with eight returns for a touchdown in his four-year career at Louisiana Tech. After going undrafted in last year's NFL Draft, he joined the Miami Dolphins training camp but was released on the final day of preseason cuts. The Houma native also had a short stint with the United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks.

The Baltimore Ravens recently won the AFC North Division after finishing the 2011 season with a 12-4 record and clinching a bye in the first round of the NFL playoffs. Baltimore will host a divisional round playoff game next weekend.

In four preseason games with the Dolphins, Livas had 11 punt returns for 141 yards, five kickoff returns for 121 and one reception for 16 yards. His highlight was a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown in the preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons.
