Inside the depth chart: Thaddaeus Medford
Louisiana Tech had a couple of primary needs when it came to the 2012 football signing class - defensive backs and offensive linemen. Tech signed four defensive backs in its 2012 class including its most recent signee, Thaddaeus Medford.
Medford is a 5-11 190 pound versatile athlete who told us he will play either strong safety or corner back for the Bulldogs. A closer look at the strong safety and corner back positions for Tech show room for the potential of immediate playing time for Medford.
At corner back, Tech returns Dave Clark and Brice Abraham and Levander Liggins. In the fall, 2012 signees Adairius Barnes and Kentrell Brice will also be in the mix at corner for the Bulldogs. Tech is still waiting on word from the NCAA on whether Ryan Williams will be granted a sixth year of eligibility. Williams has played corner and strong safety for the Bulldogs.
Strong safety is a position with some serious question marks surrounding it. If Williams is granted his sixth year, will he play strong safety or corner? Can Lloyd Grogan come in as a true freshman and play at a high level? Can Craig Johnson and Kendall Hayes play with more consistency at that position? Will Chad Boyd have to leave a more natural position at nickle back to play strong safety?
Given the lack of depth at corner and considerable amount of questions at strong safety, Medford has an opportunity to see playing time as a true freshman - maybe even significant amounts.
