Boykins feels a connection because of Tech Family
Louisiana Tech added its third commitment of the 2014 class tonight from Jacobi Boykins (Lakewood HS/Fla.). Boykins visted Ruston this weekend on an official visit and had an in-home visit from two Tech coaches tonight and he committed to the Bulldogs coaches then.
Boykins is a 6-4 wing with great athleticism and upside. His play, length and athleticism will remind Tech fans of current Bulldog Raheem Appleby. He has the ability to shoot off the dribble, shoot the three and attack the basket. A car accident caused him to miss his Junior season with a broken neck but Boykins came back furiously this summer.
Tech head basketball coach Mike White and assistant coach Dusty May were the two coaches that made the journey to St. Petersburg, Fla. for the in-home visit with Boykins and his family.
"I wanted my family to be there (when I committed) so everyone would know," Boykins said. "I wanted them there so it would be special."
White and May were excited to get his commitment Boykins said because they were clapping and giving him hugs. "They were very excited," Boykins said.
During his visit to Tech, Boykins had the chance to see the Bulldogs style of play first hand.
"[My favorite part of my visit] was the style of play -- they are up tempo and the players were real close and the coaching staff was great to me. I really felt comfortable when I was there and didn't want to go home."
Also in Ruston last weekend for an official visit was Texas big Jamuni McNeace. Boykins was already trying to get McNeace in the boat for Tech before he officially committed.
"I asked him what other schools were looking at him and I was like LA Tech is the place to be. Then he said, 'yeah it is the place to be.'"
Boykins also said he would help recruit to fill up the 2014 class for Tech if he needed to.
"I will tell [other recruits] it's a great school, you're going to feel at home and feel comfortable around everybody."
Boykins said after his visit he could definitely feel why Louisiana Tech refers to those who attend school there as the Tech family.
