Conference USA Power Rankings - week 6


Conference USA continues to be very top heavy between Marshall and East Carolina. Tulane continues to get victories and seem to be an early favorite to win the Western Division.

The biggest mover of the week was FAU who moved up four spots after getting a victory over UAB. The Owls had almost gotten wins over Middle Tennessee and Rice making us wonder if they were for real. They just might be.

1 East Carolina
The Pirates got out of Middle Tennessee with a victory thanks to some second half defensive adjustments that slowed the Blue Raiders' offense.

2 Marshall
The Thundering Herd killed UTSA last week at home. They continue to show why they are no. 2 in this ranking. The last week of the season when they take on East Carolina will be a big one.

3 Rice
The Owls took care of Tulsa in overtime to continue to be tied atop the Western Division standings.

4 Tulane
The Green Wave got another victory last week, this time over North Texas. Are the Green Wave for real? East Carolina comes to New Orleans Saturday and will give them a real test.

5 Middle Tennessee
The Blue Raiders gave first place East Carolina all they wanted but the Pirates were able to make some adjustments on defense in the second half that limited Middle Tennessee on offense.

6 North Texas
The Mean Green lost on a last second field goal to this year's Conference USA Cinderalla story, Tulane.

7 Louisiana Tech
The Bulldogs' Kenneth Dixon ran like a man possessed against UTEP last week for 200 yards. Take away a muffed punt in the third quarter and Tech probably runs away against the Miners.
Last Week: 9
The Owls went on the road and beat up on UAB. After a couple of near upsets against Middle Tennessee and Rice, FAU took care of business against a team they should have beaten.

9 Tulsa
The Golden Hurricane lost at home to Rice in overtime. The preseason favorite to win the Western division is not looking very mighty right now.

The Roadrunners were blown out on the road by Marshall 34-10. UTSA had shown some early promise, can they bounce back from this loss?
Last Week: 7
The Miners have no run defense and lost at home to Louisiana Tech 38-35.

12 UAB
FAU went into Birmingham and beat the Blazers by 14 last week.
Last Week: 11
13 FIU
The Panthers went into Hattiesburg and squeaked out a victory over Southern Miss.
Last Week: 14
14 Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles losing streak continued last week and it looked like FIU was Southern Miss' greatest chance at a win on their schedule.
