Week Seven Preview

Share

Week six of the college football season brought Louisiana Tech its second win and first in conference play. This week is the Bulldogs' first bye in two seasons.

Conference play is now in full swing as every team in the C-USA will battle a conference rival. There will only be one C-USA game on national television this weekend when the Tulsa Golden Hurricane travel to El Paso take on the Miners of UTEP on Fox Sports 1.

Here's a look at every game involving C-USA including 2014 league members Western Kentucky and Old Dominion plus Tech's non-conference opponents. Each game includes the Vegas line and my pick to win the game. My record currently stands at 48-17.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12
East Carolina (4-1) at Tulane (4-2) - 2:30 p.m., Not Televised
THE BUZZ: The Green Wave have surprised a lot of people this year but not me. I predicted Tulane would win seven games this season and the Green Wave have not let me down thus far. ECU is the class of the conference and I don't expect the Pirates to drop this one to Tulane.
THE LINE: East Carolina by 9.5
THE PICK: East Carolina
Rice (3-2) at UTSA (2-4) - 3:00 p.m., Not Televised
THE BUZZ: Rice was originally predicted to finish second in the western conference of C-USA but, with the rapid and unexpected decline of Tulsa, the Owls are not being projected to finish at the top of their division. UTSA will give them all they can handle but with senior quarterback Eric Sosa banged up, I think the Owls pull this one out.
THE LINE: Rice by 3.5
THE PICK: Rice
Marshall (3-2) at Florida Atlantic (2-4) - 4:00 p.m., Not Televised
THE BUZZ: FAU has had a rough run against conference opponents to this point of the season. The Owls were finally able to get their first conference victory last week defeating UAB by a score of 37-23. The Thundering Herd of Marshall defeated UTSA by a score of 34-10 last week. Marshall's offense rolled and the defense was stout. I think Rakeem Cato and company will just be too much for FAU to handle.
THE LINE: Marshall by 11.5
THE PICK:Marshall
Middle Tennessee (3-3) at North Texas (2-3) - 6:00 p.m., Not Televised
THE BUZZ: The jury was out about the Blue Raiders until last week. Middle Tennessee gave the ECU Pirates everything they wanted and more. Ultimately, the Blue Raiders were defeated by a score of 24-17 but they proved to the rest of the conference that they are for real. North Texas has looked good against quality opponents but, unfortunately for the Mean Green, it hasn't translated to the win column.
THE LINE: North Texas by 7
THE PICK: Middle Tennessee
UAB (1-4) at Florida International (1-4) - 6:30 p.m., Not Televised
THE BUZZ: This matchup pairs two 4 loss teams in a matchup that is sure to be a snoozer. FIU was able to get their first win of the season when they defeated Southern Miss by a score of 24-23. Someone has to win, right? This matchup is so unsettling even Vegas isn't sure who to pick.
THE LINE: Pick 'em
THE PICK: Florida International
Tulsa (1-4) at UTEP (1-4) - 3:00 p.m., Not Televised
THE BUZZ: If I told you that Tulsa would have the same record as FIU, UAB AND UTEP through six weeks of the season, would you have believed me? Believe it or not, it's true. This is another matchup of four loss teams. The Golden Hurricane, fresh off of a loss to Rice, travels to El Paso to take on the Miners of UTEP who are fresh off of a loss to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
THE LINE: Tulsa by 10
THE PICK: Tulsa
