Week Eight Preview

Week seven of the college football season brought Louisiana Tech a bye week. Week eight brings North Texas to Ruston to take on the Bulldogs in Joe Aillet Stadium.

C-USA only has three games this weekend including Louisiana Tech hosting North Texas, ECU hosting Southern Miss and Rice traveling to New Mexico State. Louisiana Tech will be the lone televised game for C-USA.

Here's a look at every game involving C-USA including 2014 league members Western Kentucky and Old Dominion plus Tech's non-conference opponents. Each game includes the Vegas line and my pick to win the game. My record currently stands at 51-19.

Louisiana-Lafayette (3-2) at Western Kentucky (4-2) - 7:00 p.m., ESPN2
THE BUZZ: It's unusual to watch football on a Tuesday night but that is exactly what will happen when the Ragin' Cajuns travel to Smith Stadium to take on the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky. Both of these teams were idle during week seven allowing each of them an extra week of practice to prepare for the other. ULL has faced two marquee opponents in Arkansas and Kansas State and were crushed by each en route to a 3-2 record on the season. The Hilltoppers have victories over Kentucky and Navy on their resume and they have a stingy defense to boast.
THE LINE: Western Kentucky by 4.5
THE PICK: Western Kentucky
Southern Miss (0-5) at East Carolina (4-2) - 11:00 a.m., CBS Sports Network
THE BUZZ: Southern Miss will be traveling to ECU still seeking their first victory of the season. ECU was upset by Tulane in overtime in week seven and will be looking to secure what should be an easy victory against the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.
North Texas (3-3) at Louisiana Tech (2-4) - 2:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network
THE BUZZ: The Bulldogs will be hosting the Mean Green of North Texas for homecoming in week eight. Tech has had an extra week to prepare for North Texas having had a bye in week seven. The Mean Green took care of business at home, soundly defeating Middle Tennessee by a score of 34-7.
THE LINE: UNT by 6.5
Old Dominion (4-2) at Pittsburg (3-2) - 6:00 p.m., ESPN3
THE BUZZ: Old Dominion was idle last week after starting the season at 4-2; Pittsburgh was soundly defeated by Virginia Tech in an ACC matchup by a score of 19-9. Old Dominion has scored more than 50 points in three of its last four games including topping the 70-point mark against Howard on September 14th. All of those games have one thing in common: FCS opponents. It will be interesting to see how the Monarchs matchup against a quality ACC opponent in the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Rice (4-2) at New Mexico State (0-6) - 6:30 p.m., Not Televised
THE BUZZ: Rice improved to 4-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play after defeating UTSA by a score of 27-21. The Owls' offense still hasn't reached its potential and they are still allowing more points than they are scoring but so far Rice has been able to stay on the winning side of the margin. New Mexico State is yet to register a victory on the season and is giving up nearly 50 points per game.
THE LINE: Rice by 20 THE PICK: Rice
