Parkway LB Williams commits to Tech

Louisiana Tech has been loading up on defensive players for the 2015 class. Sunday, they added another in Bossier City Parkway linebacker Dante Williams.

Williams camped in Ruston with Tech for its first high school camp of the year June 1 where Tech offered him a scholarship. When Tech made its rounds back to Shreveport for its Shreveport camp June 8, Williams was ready to commit.

'My favorite part about Tech was how close they are as a team," Williams said. "They feel like a family. I like how close they are. The coaches really made me feel at home. I like the facilities. I like the coaches and I like the program they are building for the future."

Parkway has produced a ton of talented in the last couple of years and Tech even received a national letter of intent from wide receiver Brodrick Jefferson last season. Jefferson will not be suiting up for the Bulldogs but instead will play football in the JUCO ranks in Texas.

I never knew where I was going to college. I never knew I was going to go to Tech and last year when he (Jefferson) committed I didn't ask him about it. I was just playing for my junior season. I was happy for him but I just did not know about the process."

With all the prospects Parkway has produced, Williams had to stay patient and wait for a scholarship offer to come his way.

"With the waiting process I just had to stay humble. I knew an offer was going to come eventually."

Williams believes his academics played a role in his slow recruitment but he fixed that by raising his ACT score and GPA.

"I really think the real reason I wasn't getting recruited hard was because my first ACT score was like a 17 and I took it again and got a 20. This semester I ended up with two A's and two B's which brought my GPA up and I meet the requirements now."

Even though he has received interest from Oklahoma State, Houston and Louisiana-Lafayette, Williams says he's confident he will stick with the Bulldogs. Tech is recruiting Williams as an outside linebacker and say they can see him putting on 20-30 pounds as a Bulldog.
