Bulldogs Set to Begin Fall Practice

Coming off their third consecutive nine-win season and third consecutive bowl win, Skip Holtz and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are set to begin fall practice at 12:01 AM Monday morning. Speaking on the 2017 season Holtz said, “there has been a lot of enthusiasm just about the success we have been able to have as a football team.”

Holtz and his staff will be faced with the tough responsibility of replacing three NFL draft picks in Carlos Henderson, Trent Taylor, and Xavier Woods. It will be no small task to do so, and there will be many new faces both offensively and defensively. In reference to the 2017 team Holtz said, “now (we) get into August, and we get an opportunity to put this football team together.”

Over the next month the offense will look to fine-tune itself with rising redshirt sophomore J’Mar Smith leading the way at quarterback. Other returners on offense include 1,000-yard rusher Jared Craft and Tulane transfer wide receiver Teddy Veal, who is expected to have a big year in 2017.

On the defensive side of the football, all-conference defensive end Jaylon Ferguson returns in 2017. He is coming off a 2016 season that saw him collect 14.5 sacks. Ferguson will continue to be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks to deal with. Secdrick Cooper also returns for his senior season at safety. Cooper will headline a secondary that will lack experience at cornerback but will be looking to improve on a 2016 where there was no shortage of struggle.
