Tech adds 10th commitment for 2017 in Tristan Allen
As one pass-rush standout learning from another, Tristan Allen has been paying close attention to the season Jaylon Ferguson has been having for Louisiana Tech.
Currently ranked second in the nation in sacks with 10 (one of just two players nationally with 10 or more, the other being Florida State’s DeMarcus Walker), Ferguson has done it from the Viper position in defensive coordinator Blake Baker’s defense that Allen finds strikingly similar to the one he currently plays for Atlanta (Texas).
Allen wants to keep the good thing going.
Allen, a two-star outside linebacker, committed to the Bulldogs Wednesday, turning away offers and/or interest from other Conference USA programs like UTEP and North Texas. Allen also had an offer from Missouri State.
“I liked the atmosphere and the football program y’all have down there,” Allen said. “I like the position (Ferguson) plays, that Viper defensive end.”
Allen is Tech’s 10th commit for the Class of 2017 and the first in the defensive front – the only other defenders currently committed to the class are a pair of defensive backs, three-star Amik Robertson of Thibodaux and two-star Kollin Hurt of Gilmer, Texas.
Atlanta and Gilmer played one another on Oct. 28, after which Allen stopped Hurt to talk about Louisiana Tech. The two caught up after the game and Allen tipped his hand to Hurt.
