Tech adds kicker to 2017 class

Brady Farlow will spend a semester at Jones County Junior College before enrolling at Louisiana Tech for Winter Quarter.

Louisiana Tech will add a kicker to its roster mid-year when Hattiesburg, Miss. native Brady Farlow enrolls for class in December for Winter Quarter.

With a redshirt junior and a redshirt senior on the roster in Jonathan Barnes and Kyle Fischer, respectively, Tech needs a kicker on the roster.

Bound for Jones County Junior College, Farlow decided to come to Tech's camp in Ruston a few weeks ago and it paid huge dividends, the Bulldogs offered him a scholarship. Farlow has trained with former Tech kicker Matt Nelson along with Chris Sailer and Brian Jackson.

"Brady is a great kid, with a solid head on his shoulders," Matt Nelson told BleedTechBlue.com. "He has worked with me and a few kicking coaches I have a ton of respect for. We all agree that Brady has a strong accurate leg. He gets great height on the ball and is consistent on field goals and kickoffs. He has shown that he performs well under pressure."

Nelson has a unique opportunity to be able to also prepare Farlow for his time in Ruston and being a Bulldog Football player and told Farlow it was the best four years of his life.

"It is awesome for me to be able to help anyone advance their career in kicking," Nelson said. "To be able to play a small part in helping Brady develop his craft and for him to use that to earn a scholarship at my alma mater is extra special. I had so many former Louisiana Tech kickers help me along the way. It's been awesome to be able to pay that forward and continue that tradition."

Getting a scholarship as a kicker is a feat to proud of. Mississippi State was high on Farlow and was between Farlow and another kicker. Ultimately, Mississippi State decided to offer the other but did want Farlow to walk-on.

"It's very hard to get a full scholarship offer if you're a kicker, that's something I've learned in this whole recruiting process -- which made the opportunity at Tech something I couldn't pass up," Farlow said.

As a native of Hattiesburg, the home of Southern Miss, Farlow will get the opportunity to play the Golden Eagles every year in the Rivalry in Dixie game.
