Tech wide receivers get medical redshirts

Two Louisiana Tech football players are expected to be granted a "medical hardship waiver", or a medical redshirt, by the NCAA last year, Richie Casey and Tim Molton.
Casey and Molton both will be redshirt freshmen next season for the Bulldogs. Both suffered season ending knee injuries in summer summer drills last season. Casey, tore the ACL in his other knee the year before and was redshirted as a Freshman that season. Molton, tore his ACL as an LSU Tiger in July of 2009 after being redshirted his freshman season due do depth for the Tigers.

Both players will play wide receiver for the Bulldogs, but neither will participate in Spring practice according to someone close to the situation. Molton and Casey are also both Louisiana products. Molton from South Louisiana's Destrehan High School and Casey from North Louisiana's Homer High School.
Casey played quarterback in high school and Molton played wide receiver and current LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson was his quarterback at Destrehan. Speed is the name of the game at the wide receiver position and both Casey and Molton possess game changing speed. Entering the fall of 2009, Molton had established himself as a starter at wide receiver for the Tigers before his injury sidelined him and he decided to transfer to Louisiana Tech.
UPDATE:Coach Dykes told the media recently, that Casey and Molton will participate in spring practice but will be limited in number of reps.
