FILM STUDY: WR commit George Scott

In June, Louisiana Tech picked up a commitment from Natchez Adams County Christian (Miss.) wide receiver George Scott (6-1, 180). Today, we look inside his highlight tape at his strength and weaknesses.

THE GOOD

Scott shows a great ability to position himself while the ball is in the air. He plays the ball well twisting mid-air and shielding the ball from the defender. I really like his ability to play the ball in the air.

Scott's hands are good. He flashes the ability to grab the ball from the air with ease.

Very few teams in the highlights try and match up with Scott in man coverage. When they did, it was obvious why it was shied away from. He gets off the defender very well in bump and run and gets into his routes. His ability to get open is aided by a very nice burst from his stance allowing him to get into his route and get separation.

One of the biggest things about Scott is his physical style. He blocks well for a receiver, and stays with his blocks well. Scott can also be a physical runner. While not a bruising big body he maintains a good base and does not go down easy. Several of his runs after the catch show him having to be forced out of bounds or being gang tackled before he goes down.

COACHING MOMENTS

Scott does need some work on his route running. He shows to be inconsistent in his breaks. At times he shows great cutting ability and works into his breaks with fluidity. Other times Scott's routes come across as sloppy and the routes appear to be run by a completely different receiver. This may very well be a product of coaching at a smaller school. This will be an opportunity for the Bulldog's staff, and in an offense heavily reliant at times on routes creating holes in zone's and on timing.

I think Scott presents himself as another possible hidden gem for the Bulldog coaching staff. He has good size, speed, and hands, and plays with a physical style that could serve him well at the next level. While I think he does need work to be more consistent and trusting in his own ability, he does have the ability. I could see him playing as either an inside receiver due to his hands and physical nature, or even possibly as a outside receiver with his speed and ability to get cleanly off the line.

If Scott can take to the coaching clean up his routes, he could develop into a very nice weapon for Holtz's offense in the years to come.
