Louisiana Tech and head football coach Skip Holtz have agreed to a five-year contract extension worth 3.5 million. The new deal pays Holtz an average salary of $700,000 per year, giving him a raise of $200,000 per year from the initial contract that he signed in 2012.

This is a deal that had been in the works for quite some time, and with spring football coming to a close, it was finally made official. Holtz has led Tech to a 31-22 overall record in his four years in Ruston, while continuing to fill the Davison Athletic Center trophy cases with three consecutive bowl victories.

A contract extension for a head football coach isn’t something that’s been the norm here in Ruston over the years, but this kind of continuity and consistency will be refreshing to Louisiana Tech fans. After losing Derek Dooley and Sonny Dykes to Power Five conference schools in years past, it is a welcome sight to have a coach that appears to be committed to putting down roots and building a great program at Tech.

After a successful nine-win campaign in 2016, Holtz and the Bulldogs will look to take the next step and win a Conference USA Championship. With seven home games that include Mississippi State, South Alabama, and Southern Miss, these new-look Bulldogs are poised for not only another great year, but one that will have the new and improved Joe Aillet Stadium rocking each and every Saturday.
