Three Keys to Victory: UTSA

1. Run the Football: Jaqwis Dancy, Boston Scott, and J’Mar Smith combined to rush for over 300 yards Saturday afternoon against UTEP. Skip Holtz and his staff figured out a recipe to run the football effectively and succeeded in a big way. With a quality UTSA defense coming to town this weekend, Tech will have to find a way to open holes in the running game. The Tech offensive line has the talent and are finally healthy, running the football for 200+ yards would go a long way in picking up their sixth win of the season Saturday.

2. Convert on Third Down: Tech entered Saturday’s contest converting only 37% of their third down tries in 2017. The Bulldogs were able to convert 9/14 on Saturday, which led to the offense piling up over 540 total yards and 35 points. The UTSA defense is limiting opponents to a 32% conversion rate. If Tech can find a way to convert 50% of their third downs on Saturday they will have success offensively. J’Mar Smith will need to make plays with his arm as well as his legs to keep the Bulldog offense moving.

3. Force Turnovers: In Tech’s five victories this season the Bulldogs have forced 12 turnovers. It is no secret that when the Bulldogs are able to force their opponent into mistakes that it leads to success. UTSA has turned the ball over 16 times in ten games thus far in 2017. If the Bulldogs can take the ball away on Saturday, they will have a golden opportunity to knock off a quality Roadrunner squad.
