Curtis came to Ruston with Sonny Dykes and went to Texas Tech during the staff change to coach with his former teammate Kliff Kingsbury when Kingsbury got the head coaching job in Lubbock, Texas.

“I am very excited to be back,” Curtis said in a release from LA Tech. “I had a great time in the three years I spent in Ruston earlier and this is like coming home for me. I am looking forward to hitting the ground running and am very thankful to Skip Holtz for the opportunity.”

During his playing days at Texas Tech from 1998-2002 Curtis was named second-team All-American for his junior and senior seasons, and was a three time All-Big 12 selection. He was selected in the fourth round by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2002 NFL Draft and played for the Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders, Cologne Centurions and Houston Texans.

Curtis began his coaching career in 2008 at Navarro College where he served two seasons as secondary coach. He was named cornerbacks coach at Louisiana Tech University under coach Sonny Dykes on February 22, 2010. Dykes was an assistant at Texas Tech during Curtis's college playing career.

“Kevin brings great energy, experience and a knowledge of Louisiana Tech,” Louisiana Tech head coach Skip Holtz said. “He was a major reason some of our top players in our back-to-back bowl win seasons are at Louisiana Tech. His previous three years in Ruston give him a great background and knowledge of the University and as a talented player at Texas Tech, he knows what it takes to win at the top level. I am really excited to have him return to Ruston and join our staff.”
